New Year Resolution #2: Read more stuff

Several months ago I ran across a list of purported great literature, which I of course copied into a spreadsheet and reviewed.  I don’t recall the source, except that it was a major US university, but it is admittedly not a bad list.

I feel I have to preface the list by pointing out that these are primarily (but not exclusively) great works originally written in English, so this is Western by nature.  And there are some serious omissions here as well, as there is not a bit of Nabokov, and Cather’s My Antonia is much better than the title listed below.

On the bright side, I was surprised by pleased to see Theodore Dreiser’s brilliant (if painful) work represented.  He is too often overlooked!
