Word of the day: Spoliation

I learned a new word today in the context of a meeting on document retention policies: spoliation.

The word literally means to plunder.  It was quite an odd one to arise during a meeting on document retention, which isn’t the most romantic, exciting, stimulating, nor even mildly interesting topic.  The presenter, a contractor, did not strike me as the pirate type at all.

The word was the high point of the meeting.  It fascinates me as one which feels like it ought to start with an e.

It also feels quite apt as a description of what Wall Street did to many shareholders.

Shall we try it in a sentence?
